Kate Eastman SC acted as senior counsel for the Uniting Church in Australia (NSW and ACT Synod) and Mr James Mein in Case Study 23: Knox Grammar School hearings held in Sydney between 23 February to 6 March 2015, and 28 April 2015, instructed by Norton Rose Fulbright and subsequently Clayton Utz.

Special Commission of Inquiry into the Greyhound Racing Industry

Dominique Hogan-Doran SC leading Jodi Steele and Steven Cominos of counsel, instructed by Norton Rose Fulbright and Clayton Utz, acted for the former Chief Executive Officer of Greyhound Racing NSW, Mr Brent Hogan, in this NSW Special Commission of Inquiry into the governance and future of the Greyhound Racing Industry in NSW.

The inquiry held public hearings between September 2015 and February 2016, after which it received extensive written submissions from parties. The Commissioner, former High Court Justice, Michael McHugh QC, reported on 16 June 2016. [Link to Commission Site]

The final report was released on 7 July 2016, at which time the NSW Government announced plans to close down the industry by 1 July 2017:

ICAC Investigation into the NSW Mine Subsidence Board (Operation Tunic)

Dominique Hogan-Doran SC and Luke Chapman of counsel acted for the NSW Mine Subsidence Board.

The inquiry investigated whether a former Acting CEO/ District Manager engaged in serious corrupt conduct that resulted in him receiving corrupt payments from MSB contractors. ICAC also investigated whether MSB end-to-end claims management process lacked satisfactory controls to prevent corruption.

Numerous corruption findings were made as were corruption prevention recommendations for the MSB to strengthen its organisational capability to fulfil its obligations, and build controls into the claims and tendering processes to restrict a single user having end-to-end control and exceeding expenditure delegations.

The public inquiry was conducted between 20 March and 29 May 2015, following which parties made extensive written submissions. The final report was delivered on 23 March 2016:

Dominique Hogan-Doran SC acted as counsel for former Thiess Ltd/John Holland Group Ltd senior executive Mr Stephen Sasse re negotiations with the Hon. Bill Shorten MP, former AWU Secretary, concerning enterprise bargaining agreements for the construction of the East Link Project in Victoria, as part of the Australian Workers Union/Thiess/John Holland Case Study.

Michael Seck acted as counsel for Mr Andrew Marcos and Mr Jeff Gallus of BMD Constructions in the AWU Membership case study.
