Matthew Richardson is ranked by Doyles Guide as a Leading NSW Junior Counsel in Technology, Media & Communications.

Matthew's primary expertise is in media and defamation law.  He has extensive trial experience and is also retained for urgent applications involving injunctive relief and suppression orders. 

Matthew regularly appears for media clients including Channel Nine, Channel Seven, Bauer Media and Radio 2GB. He has also acted for corporations including the Commonwealth Bank in defamation-related workplace disputes.


Matthew Richardson was admitted as a solicitor in 1998. 

He joined the NSW Bar in 2000.

In 2014, Matthew appeared for a plaintiff suing the Sydney Morning Herald who received one of the largest defamation awards in the state's history. He also recently assisted a councillor to obtain permanent injunctions to stop an individual making repeated defamatory attacks on a website.
